Senator Denise Harper Angel is one of two Democratic women in the Kentucky Senate and has spent many years in public service. Senator Harper Angel served as Jefferson County’s Property Valuation Administrator from 1990 to 2004.
Senator Harper Angel successfully sponsored several bills in the 2006 legislative session — just her second session as a Senator — related to health care, including: establishment of a one-stop resource center to assist elderly Kentuckians who care for adults with mental retardation; creation of a statewide osteoporosis education / prevention program; and a bill requiring that advanced directives (living wills) and organ donations be part of the electronic health network Kentucky is designing to improve health care.
As a lifelong resident of Louisville, Senator Harper Angel cares about her community and does not hesitate to get involved. She participates in numerous charitable activities.
She is a member of the River City Business & Professional Women, Metropolitan Louisville Women’s Political Caucus, Louisville Forum, the Women’s Network and the Southern High School Alumni Hall of Fame.
Senator Harper Angel is the former president of the Kentucky PVA Association and was named Outstanding Deputy PVA in 1989 and Outstanding PVA in 1996. She has two daughters, Erica and Ashley-Paige, above.
